11 troops have been killed in Pakistan

A Pakistani official says 11 troops have been killed in a militant ambush close to the Afghan border. The attack Monday in the Khyber region was unusually deadly. The dead included a captain and a colonel. Khyber government official Iqbal Khan says a convoy of paramilitary Frontier Corps troops was returning from a mission in three vehicles when it was attacked.
Pakistan's tribal regions close to the Afghan border are home to al-Qaida and Taliban militants seeking to overthrow the U.S.-allied secular government and establish a hard-line Islamic state.
